Affordable Apartment Program
With substantial encouragement and financial support from the Town of Arlington, starting in 2001, the Housing Corporation of Arlington has purchased two-family homes in Arlington to provide sustainable, affordable rental housing for low- and moderate-income families. HCA currently owns and operates 30 units of affordable apartments located within fifteen two-family houses, scattered throughout Arlington’s neighborhoods. HCA's two-family apartments range in size from 2-5 bedrooms, and all are lead paint compliant.
In October 2006 HCA purchased eighteen (18) one-bedroom units to provide affordable apartments for Arlington’s smaller households. These apartments are divided among four two-story brick buildings along Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington.
In May 2009, HCA bought an additional two buildings in Arlington Heights with ten (10) units: five one-bedrooms and five two-bedrooms.
With the acquisition of these properties, HCA’s portfolio now totals 58 units of affordable rental housing in Arlington, including 23 one-bedroom, 24 two-bedroom, 8 three-bedroom, 2 four-bedroom and 1 five-bedroom units.
Eligibility for tenants is determined by household income, which is capped at 60% of the area median income (AMI) for our two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom apartments and 80% of AMI for our one-bedroom units, as annually adjusted by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
